“Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina,” written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber became and remains a powerful tribute in song to Eva Peron (Evita), wife of Juan Peron who was the Argentinian President in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Eva Peron was a controversial figure in Argentinian history. She was a hero to many Argentines for helping to push through social reforms such as votes for women.
